Debate Society
About our society
Debate Society is one of the most prominent student organisations at the University of Brighton.
We are a welcoming and inclusive community that provides an arena for quality discussion and debate, on a variety of topics.

"Throughout my time at Brighton Uni, the closest group of friends I ever made was not on my course, or in a sports society, but through Debate."
Seb Culligan

"Debate Society gave me an opportunity to engage with people who have completely different experiences and come from different backgrounds compared to my own. Meeting these people allowed me to pop my 'bubble' and make friends for life!"
Laura Donkin

"Since my first session at debate at the start of second year, I've never looked back. It has helped me grow my confidence, introduced me to new people and more importantly given me a sense of belonging. It's truly helped me grow as a person."
Laura Greatwood
How it works
Weekly Debate Sessions
Each week our members vote on a poll of topics, put forward by the committee, and wider members. The top three subjects are debated the following Wednesday.
Socials & Other Events
As a society, we run a weekly social event, ranging from house parties to ice-skating. We also host various fund-raising and charity events, to support both the society and the community.
Model United Nations
Twice a year, we take a group of members on either a national or international Model United Nations trip, a great opportunity for any student, and a valued addition to your CV.
